This makes me so angry. The judge will not grant a furlough to this father/man who is in prison so he can be by his daughter's side during the last few days of her life. He was granted 30 minutes and is now back in his prison cell. Jayci Yaeger is 10 years old and she has brain cancer.
He has 5 months left of a 5 yr sentence, at which time he will be transferred to a halfway house. The prison is limited security with a 2 foot wall overlooking a country club.
He has been a model prisoner and is only serving time for a drug sentence, and has since been rehabilitated for his drug problem. Now this man is in danger of having emotional issues because of his anger at the system. Thinking he just can't get a break because people are so freaking heartless. He could end up right back where he is now. Let's hope it doesn't happen and that people give him some support. I hope he goes the other way.
These people are cold. I pray these a-holes come to their senses a lot sooner than April 7th because once this little girl closes her eyes it will be forever. This breaks my heart.
Prayers to this sweet, little angel and her family.
Dying Girl's Wish: Warden Allows Father Brief Visit
Lincoln, NE - Action 3 News has been bringing you the story of Jayci Yaeger. The ten-year old girl is fighting brain cancer and may not have long to live. Her final wish is to see her father one last time. However, Jason Yaeger is in a Federal Prison Camp in South Dakota where he is serving a five and a half year sentence for drugs. Jason has one year left on his sentence.
Wednesday, the warden allowed Jason a short supervised visit. He got to see Jayci for about 30 minutes, before being taken back to prison.
Jayci's family says they believe she knew he was there, because they noted a spike in her heart rate during the visit.
Jayci's Uncle, Ed Yaeger said Tuesday, "She's having respiratory problems and continues to have them. Last night, they think she had a stroke. One side is colder than the other and her blood pressure has been low. Her body is trying to shut down."
Yaeger is scheduled to move to a halfway house in Council Bluffs this August. He asked to be released for a month so he could be with his daughter before she dies. The warden previously granted Jason two brief escorted trips. Yaeger also has asked to be released to the half way house now instead of August. But that request has been denied too. Jason has also appealed to President George W. Bush for clemency. And his case is sitting in a Federal Court in Rapid City, SD with Judge Karen Schreier. The warden has until April 7th to respond to Jason's case. Again, the family doesn't believe Jayci has that long to live.
Family members tell Action 3 News that Jayci had a very rough weekend and suffered several seizures. Response to her story has been pouring in from around the country and the world. Tuesday, the family asked well wishers to give them their space so they can have some quiet time with Jayci. Right now they are not taking visitors at the Lincoln Hospice where Jayci is staying and they are not taking phone calls.
In a statement the family writes, "The family is truly grateful for the incredible outpouring of support, prayers and well-wishes from people across the US and in fact, around the world. The cards, phone calls and personal messages have been overwhelming--more numerous than ever expected. And all greatly appreciated. However, the family is now asking everyone to please respect their request for personal family quiet time with Jayci right now."
The general public is invited to visit and pass along their thoughts on Jayci's personal web pages, on www.CarePages.com. search for "JayciYaegersjourney."

Exercise helps no matter how old and out-of-shape you are when you start according to a new study. NBC's Chief science correspondent Robert Bazell reports in the video below on a the Physician's Health Study - a study following more than 20,000 male doctors over a 25-year period - that found the benefits are greater than even previously thought. Bazell also notes earlier studies that have found that exercise even helps people add the cellular level. You can also read about the study here.

Monsanto House of the Future | |

“The floors on which you are walking, the gently sloping walls around you, and even the ceilings are made of plastics.” |
|
Welcome to the walk-through attraction that provides a glimpse of how you’ll be living in future. You won’t find traditional furniture styles or natural materials in the House of the Future. Everything is ultra-modern and almost entirely synthetic. It’s a demonstration of style and technology. |

At Disneyland, the House of the Future opened in 1957 on a prime site just off the Hub, adjacent to the Circarama theater. The House of the Future was one of two free attractions sponsored by Monsanto. The other was the Hall of Chemistry, which closed in 1966. After Monsanto’s Adventure Thru Inner Space opened in 1967, the House of the Future was doomed. |

Legend has it that the planned one-day demolition of the House of Future ended up taking two weeks as the wrecking ball just bounced off the exterior. Workers painstakingly cut the house into pieces with hacksaws. After the House of the Future was removed, the house’s landscaping, waterfalls, and walkways remained. The area, named “Alpine Gardens,” became home to a souvenir stand. In 1995, Disneyland added the King Triton sculpture and delightful jumping fountains. The House of the Future hasn’t been forgotten. In fact, for an attraction that’s been gone since 1967 because it was outdated, it’s amazing that there continue to be homages to the House of the Future at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. |

The House of Innoventions at Epcot is in some ways similar to the House of the Future. It’s an opportunity to see innovative new products for the home, some of which are already available, and some of which are prototypes for future products. It’s not as visionary as the House of the Future, and the “house” itself is just a simple box-like structure within the one of the Innoventions halls. But it’s fun; it’s updated every year; and the guides do a good job. It’s one of Epcot’s best hidden attractions. |

On February 13, 2008, the Disneyland Resort announced that a new House of the Future—to be called the Innoventions Dream Home—would open in May 2008. (Is anyone else getting tired of Disney’s overuse of the words dream and dreams?) But don’t expect a return of the 1957 plastic marvel, and don’t expect visionary predictions of how we might live decades from now. As at Epcot, this new display home will be inside the Innoventions attraction. The round Innoventions pavilion at Disneyland was originally the Carousel Theater, home of the General Electric Carousel of Progress (1967-1973) and America Sings (1974-1988). According to an Associated Press article, “The 5,000-square-foot home, scheduled to open in May, will look like a suburban tract home outside. But inside it will feature hardware, software and touch-screen systems that could simplify everyday living.” The Innoventions Dream Home is sponsored by Microsoft, HP, Life|ware and homebuilder Taylor Morrison to showcase the sponsors’ products. Guests will discover how the home’s residents, the fictional Elias family, enjoy the latest in mobile phones, PCs, digital music and gaming, as they prepare for a trip to the World Soccer Championships in China. Guests will interact with family members, who, unlike the Carousel of Progress family, will be real people. The family’s name is a nod to Walter Elias Disney. I don’t know about you, but if I were preparing for a trip to China, I wouldn’t have time to interact with thousands of people visiting my home. Unlike the old House of the Future, the Innoventions Dream Home probably won’t be fondly remembered a half century later. But it promises to be better than most other exhibits in Disneyland’s Innoventions. |

This AP video tells the amazing story of a dolphin named Moko who rescued two straned whales. A group of scientists failed to rescue two pygmy sperm whales stranded on the sand bar of a New Zealand beach. Moko, a dolphin known locally, dolphin quickly came to the rescue and communicated with the whales and guided them safely to deeper waters. The dolphin then returned to the coastline to play with children swimming. There is also an article about Moko's whale rescue here.
I start out the day fresh and new. Unaware of what the day may bring. I am in control of how the world affects me. I can be happy or I can be mad. Hmm. Which shall I choose?
To be continued....
edited to add: I chose to be happy.
if i see Adam Carolla dance again
say it anyway.
The latest designs leave something to be desired.
Absolutely horrid.
I believe in speaking my mind. : D
No, I didn't.
But my coworker walked out yesterday. All I can say is, she must've been pretty pissed off. She has a family to support because that husband of hers isn't working, and we all know times are tough. I guess the pills aren't working.
I walked off a job once. I was a teenager and had nothing to lose back then. Ha.
I pray for her.
World TB Day
World TB Day - March 24, 2008 - CDC - MMWR Weekly -
March 21
World TB Day is observed each year on March 24 to commemorate the
date
in 1882 when Robert Koch announced the discovery of
Mycobacterium
tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB).
Worldwide, TB
remains one of the leading causes of death from infectious
disease. An
estimated 2 billion persons (i.e., one third of the world's
population)
are infected with M. tuberculosis. In 2005, approximately 8.8
million
persons became ill from TB, and 1.6 million died from the disease.
World
TB Day provides an opportunity for TB programs,
nongovernmental
organizations, and other partners to describe problems and
solutions
related to the TB pandemic and to support worldwide TB-control
